Turkish telecom giant Turkcell's lawsuit against MTN over a 2004 Iranian mobile operator licence is back in court this week - possibly its last chance to prove it was ousted illegally from the deal.
For well over a decade, Istanbul-headquartered Turkcell has argued that MTN hatched a plot around 2004 to overturn the results of a public tender for Iran's first private mobile licence.
It has accused the SA mobile operator of paying off senior Iranian and South African officials to illegally oust it from the company that would later become MTN Irancell.
MTN has consistently denied any wrongdoing, saying there is no proof it used underhand means to secure its 49% stake in the mobile operator.
