Statistics SA has admitted that some of the most important data that Census 2022 set out to gather are not of good enough quality to be released for official or public use because the collection process was fundamentally flawed.

Statistics SA has previously been adamant that Census 2022 met data collection standards despite a record-high 30% undercount, clear anomalies in some results, and stinging criticism from independent demographers.

But on Tuesday, it published an updated version of its publication, "Census 2022 in Brief", on its website. In the introduction to the report, a section titled "Exclusions" states that some of the data that had been scheduled for release would no longer be published.

Says the report:

July is National Savings Month in South Africa, and AVBOB encourages consumers to seize every opportunity and get into the habit of saving to realise their financial freedom.

Transnet and Eskom will be moved to their policy departments of Transport and Electricity and Energy until they can migrate into a new holding company that is yet to be established.

The latest inflation number is almost bang on the Reserve Bank's target - which cements expectations for a rate cut next month.

A high court has upheld a ruling requiring that municipalities stop charging unlawful electricity tariffs. Now lobby group AfriForum, which lodged the initial application, intends to write to the regulator asking that consumers be refunded.

Unless Absa catches up to its competitors, it will continue to be a tough sell to outsiders and will struggle to retain its talent when insiders see limited pathways upwards, says Khaya Sithole.

The company says the time is right to spend on projects that will reposition it for the future.

Restaurant group Spur says efforts to reposition its brands, including the iconic "chief" of its namesake restaurants, paid off in its year to end-June, when it managed to up its profits by just over a tenth.
