When the clock strikes 17:00 daily, Riverlea residents are forced to lock their doors and hope and pray that their houses don't become targets of rival zama zama gang fights over gold turf. Zama zama gang violence has been an issue in the suburb for several years, with little to no intervention from the SA Police Service. The story: Ongoing war zone scenes have been playing out in Riverlea where at least five people were killed in the latest clash among warring zama zama gangs.
 

What happened: Earlier in the week, Ernest Magena died during a shootout between zama zamas and police. His family are struggling to come to terms with his cruel death.
 

What's more: Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the area and promised to restore peace, while some residents fed up with his empty promises want the army to be deployed.
