Facebook rapist and killer Thabo Bester's latest advocate, Tsoeunyane Jeremiah Pela, has withdrawn from the case – moments after News24 asked him about the tender fraud and corruption trials he is facing. Here are your top stories for Tuesday, 2 May.

The background: Facebook rapist and killer Thabo Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre on 3 May last year, after faking his own death.
 

What now: The advocate who had stepped up to represent Bester – Tsoeunyane Jeremiah Pela – has withdrawn from the case, after being asked by News24 about the charges against him.
 

The details: Pela is due to go on trial in June for alleged corruption involving security tender bribery at the Motheo TVET College in Bloemfontein. 
 

The story: Police Minister Bheki Cele has announced interventions to deal with the ongoing violence in KwaMajola, near Port St Johns, in the Eastern Cape.
 

What we know: Cele told residents on Monday a request to deploy SANDF members to the area has been made to President Cyril Ramaphosa. 
 

The background: The conflict in villages around KwaMajola have seen 22 people killed and 140 homes razed over the last three years.

The story: Ultra SA and an emergency medical services company have denied claims of negligence after rapper Costa Titch collapsed on stage in March.
 

What happened: Close friends of the rapper and his manager have claimed that he did not get proper medical assistance in the moments immediately after he collapsed.
