The minimum wage could be hiked by more than 8% next year if the Department of Labour's National Minimum Wage Commission gets its way. It has proposed an adjustment to the wage in the range from CPI plus 0.5% and CPI plus 1% for 2023.   

Eskom's hopes of importing its own diesel have been dashed after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy rejected the power utility's application for a diesel wholesale licence. The licence could have saved Eskom billions in diesel and fuel oil costs each year. 

The South African Football Association has joined the world in mourning the death of Brazilian football legend Pele. The three-time World Cup winner died on Thursday at the age of 82.

The minimum wage could be hiked by more than 8% next year, according to a new proposal by the Department of Labour's National Minimum Wage (NMW) Commission.
 

The commission has proposed a hike of the consumer price index (CPI) plus 0.5% to 1%.
 

In November, CPI reached 7.4%. If a hike of CPI plus 1% is adopted, at the current inflation rate that would increase the minimum wage to around R25.13 per hour.

For those working nine hours a day, this works out to a monthly wage of around R4 750.
 

The minimum wage was hiked by almost 7% in March 2023, from R21.69 to R23.19 an hour.

After a tough year of rocketing fuel costs, South Africans will start 2023 with large price cuts expected on Wednesday.

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa in Gauteng has asked the health minister to allow nurses to wear black next week in memory of those who died in the gas tanker explosion in Boksburg.
