Good Morning, SA | Markus Jooste's 'girlfriend' has legal bid for more money backfire

PLUS: Oscar Pistorius parole hopes dashed

Berdine Odendaal, the rumoured romantic interest of Markus Jooste, has taken action against the SA Reserve Bank - which has seemingly backfired and stripped her of a monthly income of R150 000.

The bank has accused Odendaal of enjoying a "lavish lifestyle" funded by about R60 million in loans from a company linked to the former Steinhoff CEO.

Jan Cronje has the story.

In the latest update on Oscar Pistorius, Karyn Maughan unpacks how Pistorius' hopes of being released on parole this year have been dashed by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The story: Oscar Pistorius was initially found guilty of culpable homicide for the shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, but this was later overturned and replaced with a conviction for murder.

What else: The National Prosecuting Authority subsequently challenged Judge Thokozile Masipa's decision to sentence Pistorius to six years behind bars for murder, leading to the former Paralympian facing a 13-year-and-five-month sentence.

What now: The SCA has now withdrawn the two orders it issued in regard to when that sentence came into effect, meaning that Pistorius will only become eligible for parole in March 2023.

What now: Odendaal has taken the bank to court in a bid to get it to release funds to cover her mounting legal bills. But the bid backfired.
