The story: Accountability Now has threatened to drag National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) boss advocate Shamila Batohi to court to force her to investigate and prosecute former president Jacob Zuma, Police Minister Bheki Cele, and other high-profile cases.

What we know: In a letter to Batohi two months ago, Accountability Now director advocate Paul Hoffman SC accused the NPA boss and her office of dragging their feet in investigating and prosecuting several high-profile cases.

The case: The public interest entity wants the NPA to expedite the prosecution of Zuma and his former justice minister, Michael Masutha, for the 2013 "illegal and corrupt" removal of Mxolisi Nxasana as National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).

The latest: DNG Energy, a local power company that lost a bid for a contract to supply emergency power, has said it was wrongly disqualified while its rival "got the red carpet treatment" as its court case to reverse the results of the tender kicked off in the Pretoria High Court.

The details: After DNG was not named among preferred bidders in March, it turned to the courts, claiming the tender process had been corrupted by shady backroom deals to favour floating powership provider, Karpowership SA.

The response: Karpowership SA, which won the lion's share of the emergency power contacts, has accused its rival of holding the emergency power process "hostage" by launching the court challenge.

The story: The fight between environmental organisations and oil and gas company Shell has escalated from placard protests to a legal matter.

What's happened: Environmental lawyers Cullinan & Associates filed an urgent court application on behalf of its clients - Greenpeace Africa, Natural Justice, the Border Deep Sea Angling Association, and Kei Mouth Ski Boat Club - which seeks to stop Shell from commencing its seismic survey which is set to start on 1 December.

The argument: Cullinan & Associates argued Shell did not have the environmental authorisation as required under the National Environmental Management Act to go ahead with the survey.

I'm tired of tip-toeing around those who don't want to get the Covid vaccine. Government needs to get creative to encourage people to get the jab, even if that means making the vaccination process mandatory.
