ANC NEC: Ramaphosa draws a line in the sand, says all members who face charges must go

The story: The ANC's national executive committee (NEC) has urged law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned when dealing with Covid-19 corruption.

What happened: The party's top six, in an unusual move, held a media briefing where President Cyril Ramaphosa read the statement from the three-day meeting held by the ANC's highest decision-making body in between conferences.

What was said: Ramaphosa said ANC members who had been formally charged for corruption or other serious crimes must step aside from all leadership positions in the party, in legislatures, and other government structures pending the finalisation of their cases.

Packet of biscuits 'found in Nathaniel Julies' pocket', he was 'eating it when he was killed'

The latest: The family of Nathaniel Julies believes there was no motive to kill the 16-year-old and were pained when they allegedly found a packet of biscuits in his pocket after his death.

What we know: His uncle, Cyril Brown, alleged on Monday, after two police officers appeared in court in connection with his death, that Nathaniel had been eating the biscuits outside his Eldorado Park home on 26 August when he was shot. 

In quotes: "It is painful because when we went to fetch his body, there were biscuits in his pocket, that he was eating when he was killed.

Municipalities have spent more than R1 billion on legal fees, investigations - Mboweni

The news: South Africa's municipalities have spent a collective R1.2 billion on legal fees.

Top scorers: Metro municipalities such as the City of Cape Town, City of Tshwane, Ekurhuleni Metro, and Buffalo City in the Eastern Cape are some of the biggest spenders in the 2018-19 financial year.

How we know: Finance Minister Tito Mboweni revealed these figures in response to a written parliamentary question from DA MP Gizella Opperman who wanted details on municipal finances and expenditure.
